After a broken toe forced him to withdraw from the main event of UFC 303, Conor McGregor is looking forward to his eventual return to the Octagon.

McGregor posted on social media that he's "excited" to secure a new date for his expected fight against Michael Chandler.

McGregor showed respect to UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who stepped in on short notice and successfully defended his title against Jiri Prochazka with a second-round knockout in the main event of UFC 303 this past Saturday. Pereira, who was also dealing with a toe injury but chose to fight anyway, had defended McGregor for pulling out during the lead-up to the event.

Arguably the biggest superstar in UFC history, McGregor hasn't fought since he suffered a broken leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. He and Chandler have been expected to face each other since they filmed a season of The Ultimate Fighter reality competition series in early 2023. However, McGregor's recovery and commitment to his film debut in Road House caused delays in getting their fight scheduled.

McGregor and Chandler finally were set to headline the UFC's annual International Fight Week, but his injury derailed those plans. While the 35-year-old didn't provide a timetable for his return, he made it clear that he will never fight again without being 100 percent healthy.

Chandler also hasn't fought since November 2022, but he's committed to waiting for McGregor to be ready because the matchup would undoubtedly be the most lucrative fight of his career.

It appears that both sides are getting closer to learning their new fight date, so fans will be excited to find out when McGregor will be back in the Octagon.
