NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers' Unexcused Absence from Jets Minicamp Was Due to Egypt Trip

Andrew Peters

Aaron Rodgers missed part of the New York Jets' mandatory minicamp in June, and his absence was due to a preplanned trip.

Per SNYTV's Connor Hughes, Rodgers had a trip to Egypt the same week as the minicamp. He was in attendance for all of Phase 1, but missed a week of Phase 2, according to Hughes. Rodgers also attended every OTA practice.

Hughes reported that the Jets were aware of the trip and don't think it will have an impact on the season, but also said it was not "communicated initially."

Now back with the team, the Rodgers will look to continue paving his return from a torn Achilles suffered during the first offensive drive of the Jets' season in 2023. The four-time MVP was sidelined the rest of the year following the injury.

He joined the Jets last offseason, setting high expectations in New York following a more than a decade of struggles Sidelined with the injury, he was unable to meet those expectations as New York finished the year a mediocre 7-10.

Now gearing up for his return, Rodgers will look to have as much success as he did in his last healthy season. In 2022 while still playing for the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers had 3,695 passing yards and 26 touchdowns. He's also just a few seasons removed from winning back-to-back MVPs in 2020 and 2021 and will be hoping for MVP-like numbers this season.

Rodgers' absence was certainly a talking point for fans in recent weeks, but New York will now look to put it in the past and focus on the rest of the offseason.
