WWE Rumors: Ricochet's Contract Officially Expires; Samantha Irvin to Stay with WWE

Mike Chiari

Ricochet's WWE contract reportedly expired on Monday, officially making him a free agent.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), sources within both WWE and All Elite Wrestling expect that the veteran high-flyer will soon sign with AEW.

Ricochet is engaged to popular WWE ring announcer Samantha Irvin, but Fightful noted that she is expected to continue in her current position with WWE.

Rumors have run rampant regarding The One and Only's status with WWE for weeks, and they reached a fever pitch after the June 10 episode of Raw.

On that show, Bron Breakker beat Ilja Dragunov in a match, and when he attempted to injure The Mad Dragon afterward, Ricochet made the save.

Breakker later made Ricochet pay in a backstage segment by throwing him into the side of a truck and onto the windshield of a car, resulting in Ricochet getting taken away in an ambulance.

At that time, it was widely expected that Ricochet had made his final WWE appearance and was perhaps preparing to sign elsewhere once his contract officially expired.

The 35-year-old signed with WWE in 2018 after making a name for himself in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Lucha Underground and numerous other companies.

He quickly became a top star in NXT, holding the North American Championship at one point before getting called up to the main roster in 2019.

While Ricochet struggled to get sustained pushes during his time on the main roster, he won quite a bit of gold, holding the Intercontinental Championship and United States title one time each.

Most recently, Ricochet was the inaugural WWE Speed champion, which is a title defended exclusively on X.

Ricochet dropped it to Andrade earlier this month, though, which added to the speculation that he was on his way out of WWE.

If Ricochet does indeed sign with AEW, he could appear as soon as Wednesday's episode of Dynamite with his WWE contract reportedly expiring.

It also stands to reason that AEW could have interest in booking an International Championship match between Ricochet and Will Ospreay in the latter's home country of England at All In in August, especially given they went viral for their matches against each other in the past.
