Full MLB All-Star Game 2024 Roster Predictions

Joel Reuter

The 2024 MLB All-Star Game starting lineups will be unveiled Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN, and the full AL and NL rosters will be released Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ET on the All-Star Selection Show also on ESPN.

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper have already secured their spot as starters after leading their respective leagues in vote total during Phase 1 of the voting process.

Who else will be suiting up at this year's Midsummer Classic?

All season we have released monthly predictions for what the AL and NL All-Star rosters might look like, and now it's time for one final round.

Using the 32-player roster format and sticking to the rule of selecting one player from each of the 30 teams, we have assembled our final predictions for the 2024 MLB All-Star teams.

For consistency, each roster was made up of 20 position players and 12 pitchers.

Let the debate begin.

AL Starting Lineup

1. SS Gunnar Henderson, BAL
2. RF Juan Soto, NYY
3. CF Aaron Judge, NYY
4. DH Yordan Alvarez, HOU
5. 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr., TOR
6. 3B José Ramírez, CLE
7. 2B José Altuve, HOU
8. C Adley Rutschman, BAL
9. LF Steven Kwan, CLE
SP Seth Lugo, KC

Notes

-The first update to Phase 2 voting was released on Monday, and catcher Adley Rutschman (72% support), shortstop Gunnar Henderson (67% support) third baseman José Ramirez (59% support), first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (57% support) and second baseman José Altuve (56% support) look like locks for the AL starting lineup.

-The closest race is at designated hitter, where Yordan Alvarez (51% support) holds a narrow lead over Ryan O'Hearn (49% support). With Oakland Athletics slugger Brent Rooker worthy of a reserve nod, the player who comes up short might be on the outside looking in for a roster spot.

-The battle for the final two outfield spots alongside Aaron Judge—who already locked up his spot as the AL voting leader in Phase 1—is also extremely tight between Juan Soto (29% support), Steven Kwan (28% support) and Anthony Santander (26% support).

y-3B Josh Smith, TEX
SS Carlos Correa, MIN
SS Bobby Witt Jr., KC
OF Jarren Duran, BOS
OF Riley Greene, DET
x-OF Kyle Tucker, HOU
DH Brent Rooker, OAK

Notes

-The only picks here driven by the need to have a representative from each team were shortstop Carlos Correa (MIN) and third baseman Isaac Paredes (TB), and both are more than worthy of All-Star recognition. Correa is hitting .311/.380/.502 with 26 extra-base hits and 3.1 WAR, while Paredes has a 138 OPS+ with 13 home runs and 43 RBI.

-Despite being sidelined since early June with a shin contusion, outfielder Kyle Tucker has still put together an All-Star caliber first half, posting a 174 OPS+ with 19 home runs, 40 RBI and 10 steals in 60 games. Will AL manager Bruce Bochy opt for one of his own players to replace him on the roster? Third baseman Josh Smith has been a 3.4-WAR player through 80 games while filling in for the injured Josh Jung at third base.

-It's worth wondering if the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics will both end up with multiple All-Star selections, as both teams also have a pitcher on our projected roster. However, there is no question all four players are deserving candidates, and each would rank among the year's biggest snubs if they were not included.

SP Garrett Crochet, CWS
SP Logan Gilbert, SEA
SP Tanner Houck, BOS
SP Tarik Skubal, DET
RP Emmanuel Clase, CLE
RP Mason Miller, OAK
RP Andres Munoz, SEA
RP Kirby Yates, TEX

Notes

-Tyler Anderson (LAA) and Garrett Crochet (CWS) are the only All-Star picks for their respective clubs, but the rest of the AL staff was open to the top performing pitchers across the American League.

-It feels wrong to only have one starting pitcher from a Seattle Mariners rotation that ranks third in the majors with a 3.43 ERA, and there is certainly a case to be made for swapping out closer Andrés Muñoz in favor of starters George Kirby or Luis Castillo.

-A return to the All-Star Game for Kirby Yates would be a great story. The 37-year-old finished ninth in NL Cy Young voting and earned an All-Star nod back in 2019, but that was followed by three injury-plagued seasons that looked like they might spell the end of his career. Now he has a 0.95 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 12.1 K/9 with 11 saves in 11 chances for the Texas Rangers.

NL Starting Lineup

1. DH Shohei Ohtani, LAD
2. SS Trea Turner, PHI
3. 1B Bryce Harper, PHI
4. 3B Alec Bohm, PHI
5. CF Christian Yelich, MIL
6. RF Fernando Tatis Jr., SD
7. 2B Ketel Marte, ARI
8. C William Contreras, MIL
9. LF Jurickson Profar, SD
SP Ranger Suárez, PHI

Notes

-On the NL side of the Phase 2 voting update, third baseman Alec Bohm (70% support), designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (61% support), catcher William Contreras (60% support) and second baseman Ketel Marte (55% support) are looking like safe bets to join Phase 1 voting leader Bryce Harper in the NL's starting lineup.

-Things are much closer at shortstop where Trea Turner (53% support) holds a narrow lead over the injured Mookie Betts (47% support), and even if Betts ends up pulling ahead he will need to be replaced on the roster and in the starting lineup.

-Christian Yelich (21% support), Jurickson Profar (20% support), Fernando Tatis Jr. (16% support), Brandon Marsh (15% support), Teoscar Hernández (15% support) and Nick Castellanos (14% support) are the six finalists for the three NL outfield spots, and all six are still in the mix for a starting spot.

SS CJ Abrams, WAS
x-SS Mookie Betts, LAD
SS Elly De La Cruz, CIN
OF Jazz Chisholm Jr., MIA
OF Teoscar Hernández, LAD
OF Brandon Nimmo, NYM

Notes

-Five spots on the NL bench addressed the need for each team to have an All-Star selection, with CJ Abrams (WAS), Jazz Chisholm Jr. (MIA), Elly De La Cruz (CIN), Ryan McMahon (COL), Brandon Nimmo (NYM) the only representative from their respective clubs.

-Even if he is not voted to the starting lineup, Mookie Betts did enough before suffering a fractured left hand to be recognized as an All-Star for the eighth time in his 11-year career. The 31-year-old is hitting .304/.405/.488 for a 156 OPS+ with 29 extra-base hits and 4.1 WAR in 72 games.

-Veteran slugger Christian Walker is one of the best active players to never make an All-Star team, and the Mookie Betts injury will give D-backs manager Torey Lovullo a chance to rectify that situation if he is not picked as an NL reserve. The 33-year-old has a 127 OPS+ with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 53 RBI in 84 games.

SP Cristopher Sánchez, PHI
SP Paul Skenes, PIT

RP Ryan Helsley, STL
RP Raisel Iglesias, ATL
RP Evan Phillips, LAD
RP Robert Suárez, SD

Notes

-Ryan Helsley (STL), Shōta Imanaga (CHC), Paul Skenes (PIT) and Logan Webb (SF) are the only All-Star picks for their respective teams, which coupled with the fact that almost the entire Philadelphia Phillies rotation is All-Star worthy leaves very few spots up for grabs.

-Fun fact: Raisel Iglesias has the second-highest career save total for a pitcher who has never made an All-Star team, with his 210 saves checking in just behind Gene Garber (218) for the top spot on that list. The 34-year-old has a 2.35 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 20 saves in 22 chances this season, so this could finally be the year.

-In fact, the only pitchers on this projected NL staff who have made the All-Star team before are Chris Sale (7x), Zack Wheeler (1x) and Ryan Helsley (1x), and there is a strong case to be made that Tyler Glasnow and Logan Webb are the two best active starting pitchers who have never made a Midsummer Classic appearance.
