NBA Trade Rumors: Latest on Wendell Carter, Cam Johnson and Bennedict Mathurin

The NBA trade market is heating up during the early stages of free agency.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Wendell Carter Jr, Cam Johnson and Bennedict Mathurin are some names that could be dealt this offseason.

For Carter Jr, Scotto reported that multiple teams, including the New Orleans Pelicans, have expressed interest in the Orlando Magic center.

"Amid the expected Hartenstein courtship, rival teams have expressed trade interest in Magic center Wendell Carter Jr., including the New Orleans Pelicans," Scotto wrote. The Pelicans are searching to add a center, with Jonas Valanciunas expected to depart in free agency, as previously reported on HoopsHype."

Carter Jr. averaged 11 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 55 games in 2023-24. He has two years remaining on his contract and has an $11.9 million cap hit for 2024-25.

Johnson also has multiple teams showing interest as the Brooklyn Nets prepare to enter a rebuild.

"Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has drawn recent trade interest from several teams, including the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings," Scotto wrote. "The Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic also registered exploratory trade interest in Johnson, league sources told HoopsHype."

Johnson averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 58 games in 2023-24. He has three years remaining on his contract and has a $23.6 million cap hit for 2024-25.

Mathurin has not been made available yet by the Indiana Pacers, but Scotto reported that team's are checking in on him

"As the Indiana Pacers have done their due diligence working the phones with NBA teams across the league, rival executives have inquired about Bennedict Mathurin and Jarace Walker," Scotto wrote. "Both young players, however, haven't been made available by Indiana, with the team looking to bring back its core in an attempt to make another deep playoff run this upcoming season."

Mathurin averaged 14.5 points, four rebounds and two assists in 59 games in 2023-24. The 22-year-old has a cap hit of $7.2 million in 2024-25 and won't hit restricted free agency until 2026-27.
