The two matches of the knockout round of the 2024 European Championship gave fans an expected result and a bit of an upset.

England opened up as the favorite to win the title ahead of the Round of 16, and it remained there after the first day of action. Betting on England to win the title means counting on the squad to bounce back after a sluggish showing in the group stage. England had just one win over Serbia before drawing against Denmark and Slovenia.

But England has a somewhat easier path to the championship compared to other favorites like Germany and Spain. There are no major threats on its side of the bracket, so picking England to take home the title seems like a safe choice.

England's match with Slovakia on Sunday should be telling of how likely it is to have a strong showing through the rest of the tournament.

Germany came into the Round of 16 as the third betting favorite behind England and Spain, but is now seen to have better odds than Spain. A convincing win over Denmark certainly helped its case.

Besides Germany and England, Spain should likely be considered the other good bet to win Euro 2024. The team cruised through the group stage and now enters the knockout round with confidence and momentum.

The winner of Euro 2024 could likely be decided if and when Germany and Spain match up in the quarterfinal. Assuming Spain handles Georgia to advance, its toughest matchup will be Germany in the next game.

Whoever comes out of that game would have a somewhat easy path moving forward.
