No. 1 Golfer Nelly Korda Withdraws from Tournament After Injury from Dog Bite

Nelly Korda has withdrawn from a Ladies European Tour event next week after sustaining an injury from a dog bite, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

The World No. 1 golfer was set to compete in an LET Aramco Team Series tournament next Wednesday through Friday at Centurion Club in Hemel Hempstead, England, but will now have to miss the event.

Korda released a statement on Instagram on Friday.

"I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week's Ladies European Tour tournament in London," she said in the statement. "On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully. I apologize to the LET, the sponsors, and my fans for my absence. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to returning to the course soon."

Korda, 25, won the 54-hole tournament last year, beating Charley Hull by four strokes for her third career victory on the LET.

Korda did not reveal the severity of the injury or state how long she would be out of action, but it was serious enough to keep her from competing next week.

Last week, she missed the cut at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, marking her third consecutive cut missed. Though she has struggled in recent weeks, she's had an overall successful season, winning six events so far with her most recent victory coming at the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey.

Luckily for Korda, the LPGA will have a week off following this week's Dow Championship, giving her more time to recover. The tour will continue with the fourth major of the season, the Amundi Evian Championship in Evian-les-Bains, France, from July 11-14.

Korda is also scheduled to compete for the U.S. in the Paris Olympics from Aug. 7-10, where she will look to defend the gold medal she won in 2021 in Toyko.
