B/R Wrestling Staff Predictions for AEW Forbidden Door 2024 Match Card

Doc-Chris Mueller

We're nearing the end of June, meaning the annual All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling co-produced Forbidden Door pay-per-view is upon us.

Here is a look at the planned card as of the end of Wednesday's Dynamite:

As always, we have our panel of contributors here to answer questions and offer predictions.

Donald Wood

Storm vs. Shirakawa

Lay out how you think this match should end to give us the most satisfying conclusion

The war of words between Storm and Shirakawa has been one of the best things in all of wrestling over the last month, with the focus of their feud being the love of Mariah May.

While May has a long history with Shirakawa, she must side with Storm and help the champion retain her title by any means necessary since the match is taking place in AEW, and the story must continue.

Jericho, Cobb and Bill vs. Hook, Joe and Shibata

What is your opinion of this current version of Chris Jericho?

While many fans have abandoned ship on Jericho, he remains one of the best parts of AEW every week. As one of this generation's most popular performers, he continues to put young performers on the map through his constantly evolving gimmicks.

The latest version upholds that tradition, with fans being exposed to new talent and performers needing an overhaul. Jericho is a wrestling treasure and deserves to be treated in the same regard as Undertaker, Triple H or Shawn Michaels.

Moxley vs. Naito

Should Moxley drop the IWGP title here?

Moxley has held the IWGP title for just under three months but hasn't done a whole lot with it.

The decision to put the belt on him felt like an attempt from New Japan to garner some buzz, but it's hard to believe Naito would get a rematch unless he was regaining the gold.

Moxley losing the title at Forbidden Door would allow him to move into something more meaningful on AEW TV.

Takeshita vs. Briscoe vs. Perry vs. Martin vs. Rush vs. El Phantasmo

Putting aside logic and current stories, who do you want to see win the TNT title the most?

Perry feels like the odds-on favorite to win here, but Takeshita would be the strongest choice of the bunch.

He's largely been floundering since beating Kenny Omega last year and could use the TNT title to get to the next level, but he's bound to fall short when it matters most once again so The Elite can add more gold to their collection.

Kevin Berge

ZSJ vs. Cassidy

Who would you like to see win this match and why?

While I expect Orange to win, I would much rather see ZSJ pull out the victory.

He has put over opponents in back-to-back Forbidden Door events while always putting on a great performance. He also remains NJPW's dark horse and should be considered to win the G1 Climax this year.

This could be the start of The Technical Wizard finally capturing the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Swerve vs. Ospreay

Offer an argument for why Swerve should retain on Sunday.

Ospreay is great, but Strickland needs this moment right now. He won the AEW World Championship just over 60 days ago. A loss this early could hurt his main event future.

Ospreay is already a champion with multiple stories brewing between his admiration for Daniel Garcia to his growing animosity of MJF. He will benefit from a loss, giving him adversity to overcome in the future.

Chris Mueller

Danielson vs. Takagi

Offer an argument for why Danielson should lose.

The American Dragon winning seems like a safe bet, but there are some interesting potential directions AEW could take his story if he loses.

We all know he is winding down his in-ring career and likely wants to put some people over on his way out. Beginning a losing streak with a loss to Takagi would be a good starting point.

MJF vs. Hechicero

Is MJF winning too predictable?

With this being MJF's first big PPV match since returning from injury, he was always going to win regardless of the opponent.

Pairing him with Hechicero ensures we will get a great contest even if the outcome can be seen coming from a mile away.
