Paul George, James Harden, Russell Westbrook's Top Landing Spots After 2024 NBA Draft

Jack Murray

With the first round of the NBA Draft in the rearview mirror, the potential landing spots for some NBA veterans appear to be a bit more clear.

Three of those veterans happen to play of the same team. Paul George, James Harden and Russell Westbrook could all conceivably play somewhere other than the Los Angeles Clippers in 2024-25, and finding the perfect fit is something all three are hoping for.

Harden is officially an unrestricted free agent, while Westbrook and George both have final decisions on player options. Even if the pair opts-in, a trade following that decision could be very likely.

Here is a look at a few potential destinations for each player.

Possible Destinations:

George may be one of the most sought after players this offseason. He averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 74 games in 2023-24. If he opts-in, he would have a 48.7 million cap hit and could then hit free agency following the season.

Philadelphia is a strong team that could be a contender in 2024-25. It went 47-35 and lost in the first round of the postseason. This was the seventh consecutive playoff berth for the 76ers, but they have been unable to advance past the second round during that stretch. George could change this, and would join Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in developing a formidable core.

Golden State could be a long-term solution for George. The Warriors are reportedly willing to give the forward a four-year max contract, and he could help the franchise chase another title.

The Warriors went 46-36 and lost in the play-in tournament. Golden State could also lose Klay Thompson in free agency, but adding George would certainly catapult it back towards being a contender.

The Rockets were reported to be an "unlikely" destination for George, but that doesn't mean Houston is out of the running. It is an intriguing situation, as Houston had a 19-win improvement from 2022-23. That earned it a 41-41 record, but it was not enough to reach the play-in tournament.

George could join Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr, Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet with the Rockets and hope he can lead the team back to the postseason for the first time since 2019-20.

Possible Destinations:

Harden wanted to go to the Clippers before 2023-24, and it's not impossible to think his opinion hasn't changed.

The Clippers went 51-31 in 2023-24 and earned the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference. The playoff run was short lived, as the team fell in the first round to the Dallas Mavericks. Still, Harden could return to a team that still has Kawhi Leonard and is set to debut a new arena.

A return to Houston looked possible last offseason, so it's safe to assume it could happen once again. The Rockets are a new team after going 41-41 a season ago and Harden could be the piece that sparks some nostalgia and helps the team return to the playoffs.

Toronto had a down year in 2023-24, going 25-57. This came after the team saw OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet depart for brighter pastures, but Scottie Barnes is an intriguing piece that Harden could help develop. Additionally, Toronto could offer a lucrative deal and Harden could leave the loaded Western Conference.

Potential Destinations:

Westbrook is more of a depth scoring option at this point, but that is a useful attribute for many teams. He averaged 11.1 points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists in 68 games in 2023-24. He only started 11 of those games, and it's likely he would come off the bench for his next team as well.

The Suns went 49-33 in 2023-24 but were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves. This was a disappointing for a team with championship aspirations, and head coach Frank Vogel was fired after just one season.

Phoenix could use a playoff veteran like Westbrook as it looks to go all-in once again, and it could be the strongest roster he has played on in a long time.

Miami is in a similar boat. It went 46-36 in 2023-24 and fell to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the postseason. This was disappointing after the Heat reached the NBA Finals in 2022-23, and 2024-25 could be one of the last chances for the current core to have a postseason run.

Adding Westbrook could be a solid option in that all-in push.

If Westbrook is hoping for a bigger contract, going to Toronto and receiving some more playing time could be a solid option.
