It's safe to say that Luis Severino is enjoying some of the freedom with a different New York franchise.

The right-handed pitcher was asked about the differences between playing for the New York Mets as opposed to the New York Yankees, his former team. His response? The ability to grow some facial hair.

"Having a beard," Severino said. "(Being with the Mets) is definitely a little bit more calm."

He also noted that the pressure with this Mets team is much less than the Yankees, as his former team had significant expectations every single season while fans are not anticipating much from the current Mets squad.

"You come here and nobody is expecting us to win this year," Severino said. "That is a little bit less pressure on us. It's just about coming here and winning games and at the end of the year we will see what happens."

These comments came on the eve of the Mets' second game against the Yankees of the 2024 season. The Mets won the first game, 9-7, at Citi Field, although Severino did not take the mound and is not due to pitch in the final game of the series on Wednesday.

Severino has seen some success since venturing to Queens. He is 5-2 with a 3.29 ERA in 15 starts in 2024. This has been a big improvement from his final season with the Yankees in 2023, where he went 4-8 and had a 6.65 ERA in 19 starts.

His final season doesn't paint a truly accurate picture of his time with the Yankees, as he earned two All-Star selections and accumulated an overall record of 54-37 with a 3.79 ERA across eight seasons.

As he looks to help his 38-39 Mets navigate the rest of the season, the Yankees currently lead MLB with a 52-29 record and have serious World Series aspirations.
