LA 2028 Olympics Adds Clippers' Intuit Dome, NFL's SoFi Stadium to New Venue Plans

The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics announced Friday that they have added the Intuit Dome and SoFi Stadium to their venue plan, though the decision is still pending approvals from the city of Los Angeles, the IOC and the IPC.

The Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, will be home to the Los Angeles Clippers once construction is completed. The venue is set to open in August, according to its website. SoFi Stadium, which opened in 2020, is home to the Los Angeles Chargers and Rams. The stadium will also be a venue for the 2026 World Cup.

According to LA28's venue masterplan, basketball will take place in the Intuit Dome while SoFi Stadium will host swimming events, becoming the largest swimming venue in Olympic history with 38,000 seats.

Other venues in Los Angeles include Crypto.com Arena, which will host gymnastics, and LA Memorial Coliseum, which will host track and field events and para athletics events. LA Memorial Coliseum will also host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The San Fernando Valley area is set to host BMX and skateboarding events and archery will take place nearby in the Sepulveda Basin area.

Exposition Park, which was a venue for the 1932 Olympics, will host diving events while artistic swimming and para swimming events will be held in Long Beach. Shooting events were originally assigned to the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area, but will now take place at a location to be determined.

Outside of Southern California, softball and canoe slalom will be held in Oklahoma City due to the lack of venues capable of hosting such events.

The 2028 Olympics mark the third time Los Angeles has played host city of the games and the first time since 1984. It will also be just the fifth time the United States has hosted the Summer Olympics and the first time since the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The US was the host city of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has hosted four Winter Olympics in total.
