Chael Sonnen Calls Out Jorge Masvidal After Anderson Silva Draw in Boxing Fight

Former UFC and Bellator star Chael Sonnen is already looking toward his next challenge days after drawing with Anderson Silva in a boxing ring.

The 47-year-old reiterated his past comments and said he intends to oppose former "BMF" titleholder Jorge Masvidal next.

"I got called out for that fight, I have agreed to that fight, this was all part of the training process, and I learned some stuff tonight," Sonnen told reporters. "Anderson, when he gets going, he tricked me a number of times, and I do not like to get tricked in there. I like to see that stuff coming. But, I mean, he would move one way and hit you with the other, he'd show you the right hand and then hit you with the left. He was very tricky and he was very fast.

"I only say that because the guy is the better part of 50. If he is tricking me to the point that he can get some of those hands on me, I'm going to have to respect Jorge Masvidal a little bit more than I wanted to."

Sonnen went on to say Masvidal is "a little bit overrated, in all fairness, within his own mind."

He previously mentioned in May on his Good Guy / Bad Guy podcast with Daniel Cormier he was lining up a date with Masvidal.

While Sonnen and Masvidal haven't crossed paths in UFC, there's apparently some bad blood between the two.

For now, Masvidal's focus is squarely on his own boxing endeavors. He and Nate Diaz are squaring off July 6 in Anaheim, California, and things got heated at a press conference for the event earlier this month.

Until the contracts are signed, it might be a little too early to speculate about what's in store for Sonnen and Masvidal in the months ahead. The former is nonetheless doing his best to build up some excitement for the hypothetical clash.
