The 2024 Wimbledon tournament will feature one of the largest total prize purses for a Grand Slam tournament in history.

Per The Athletic's Charlie Eccleshare, the $65 million purse for this year's event is up 11.9 percent from 2023.

The men's and women's singles champions will each receive $3.45 million. The runners-up will receive $1.8 million.

The largest purse for a Grand Slam event was $65 million at the 2023 U.S. Open, with the men's and women's singles champions each earning $3 million.

Eccleshare noted the Wimbledon purse is "just short" of the U.S. Open payout, but it is ahead of the roughly $57 million for this year's Australian Open and French Open.

The payout for the singles champions at Wimbledon is higher than the $3 million from the U.S. Open.

In the past 10 years, the purse at Wimbledon has nearly doubled. It was $42 million in 2014, with the singles champions receiving $2.9 million.

The 2024 Wimbledon tournament will begin on July 1. Carlos Alcaraz and Markéta Vondroušová are the defending singles champions. Alcaraz will be entering the tournament coming off a victory at the French Open. Vondroušová lost in the quarterfinal to eventual champion Iga Świątek.

Rafael Nadal announced on Thursday he won't be playing at Wimbledon to prepare for the Olympics.

Novak Djokovic's status for the tournament is uncertain after he had knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus suffered during the French Open.

The men's and women's singles draw for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships will be held on June 30 at 5 a.m. ET. The tournament will run from July 1-14 at the All England Club.
