The 156th running of the Belmont Stakes was one by Dornoch and jockey Luis Saez, meaning all three legs of this year's Triple Crown were won by different horses.

While there was no Triple Crown title at stake on Saturday evening, there was plenty of intrigue surrounding the race coming into it. Kentucky Derby-winner Mystik Dan was looking to rebound after finishing second to Seize the Grey at the Preakness.

With renovations underway at Belmont Park, the Belmont Stakes were also held, for the first time, at the legendary Saratoga Race Course.

"We have historic Saratoga Race Course and the Belmont Stakes—two great events at one spot," FOX Sports producer Pete Macheska said, per Frank Angst of Bloodhorse. "So you'll see a lot of the history at Saratoga."

This year's race also featured a record $2 million prize purse, up from last year's $1.5 million prize pool.

Derby runner-up Sierra Leone was the race-day favorite, ahead of Mindframe, Mystik Dan and Sieze the Grey. However, it was Dornoch, a 17-1 long shot, who emerged victorious.

According to the Fox broadcast, Dornoch had the longest odds of any Belmont winner since 2011.

1. Dornoch - $1.2 Million

2. Mindframe - $360,000

3. Sierra Leone - $200,000

4. Honor Marie - $100,000

5. Antiquarian - $60,000

6. Protective - $40,000

7. Seize the Grey- $20,000

8. Mystik Dan - $20,000

For much of the early race, it appeared that Seize the Gray might win a second straight leg of the Triple Crown. The D. Wayne Lukas-trained horse and jockey Jaime Torres held an early lead and threatened to stay in front.

However, a late push by Saez around the final turn put Dornoch in the lead down the stretch. Mindframe and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. made their own late push and made it extremely interesting at the rail.

Jockey Flaien Prat, who replaced Derby jockey Tyler Gaffalione, tried to stalk with Sierra Leone throughout the race but got jammed in traffic early and wasn't able to close the distance on the leaders until it was too late.

Dornoch didn't generate a lot of attention heading into the weekend after finishing 10th at the Kentucky Derby. However, trainer Danny Gargan believed.

"He's such a talented horse," Gargan told Fox Sports' Charissa Thompson after the race. "We've thought so much of him all along. ...It's a special ride."

Gargan and his race team had plenty of reasons to believe they could win. While Dornoch's performance at the Kentucky Derby left plenty to be desired, the Horse won a trio of races before a fourth-place finish at the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. Dornoch is also the full brother of 2023 Derby-winner Mage.

Saturday's win represented the first Triple Crown victory for Gargan, but it was the second Belmont win for Saez. He won the 2021 Belmont atop Essential Quality.
