Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Austin Maddox is facing four felony count charges after he was arrested as part of an underage sex sting.

The Associated Press reported police in Jacksonville, Florida, announced Monday that Maddox and 26 other people were arrested as part of this operation. Those who were arrested allegedly solicited sex over the internet from people who they believed to be children.

Maddox is in jail and being held on a $300,000 bond following his arrest.

His attorney said the plan is to enter a not guilty plea if authorities file formal charges.

According to the arrest report, the 33-year-old former Red Sox pitcher was communicating with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl and agreed to meet her with the intention of having sex.

However, he was actually communicating with an undercover agent and was arrested when he arrived at the location where he believed he was meeting the girl.

Maddox made 13 appearances for Boston during the 2017 season, but that was the only time he appeared in games at the major league level. He suffered shoulder injuries and was eventually released from the team in 2019.
