Trading SmackDown Star to Raw, The Elite's Next Member, More WWE and AEW Quick Takes

The WWE landscape continues to shift even weeks removed from the 2024 draft, as one specific SmackDown Superstar could be on the move to Monday nights.

Despite landing on the blue brand in the recent roster shakeup, this clearly directionless individual teased talking to SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis last Friday about what one can only assume involves a significant career change—something transferring to Raw could accomplish.

The Elite are also amid a metamorphosis of their own at the moment in All Elite Wrestling. With an Anarchy in the Arena match coming up, the group could be on the verge of adding a new member member as soon as Sunday at Double or Nothing.

The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada all hold gold and it shouldn't be long before Jack Perry secures a title as well. Recruiting another sought-after star into their ranks would only further their hostile takeover of the company.

This installment of Quick Takes will delve into who should be next to join The Elite, the proper finals for the King of the Ring, injuries creating opportunity in AEW, and more.

A Trade to Raw Should Be Next for AJ Styles

Following back-to-back high-profile losses to Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, AJ Styles is in desperate need of a change of pace. The conversation he teased having with Aldis on SmackDown should lead to him joining the Raw roster imminently.

Although the blue brand retained his services in the draft, there isn't much left for The Phenomenal One to do there. He has failed to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship twice this year, got eliminated from King in the Ring in the first round and fell short against LA Knight at WrestleMania 40.

There isn't much upward mobility for him on Friday nights, and although there's no guarantee he'd be much better off on Raw, at least the move to Mondays would provide a fresh batch of opponents to work with.

This would be an appropriate time to experiment with the idea of doing talent trades between the on-air authority figures. Styles could be sent to Raw in exchange for a Superstar the caliber of Braun Strowman, who has been spinning his wheels since returning from injury at the end of April.

On Raw, The Phenomenal One would have a stronger chance of being highlighted toward the top of the card, whereas he'd be a guaranteed stepping stone if he stays on SmackDown.

AEW's Long List of Injuries Creates Opportunity for Lesser-Used Stars

From MJF and Kenny Omega to Jamie Hayter and Adam Cole, AEW has never before been struck with as many injuries as it is right now.

Even with Darby Allin returning sooner than expected on Wednesday's Dynamite, there is still a laundry list of stars out injured, and the absence of so many notable names has undoubtedly hindered the weekly product.

The only way AEW can use this setback to its advantage is by beginning to focus on lesser-utilized talents who would normally be overshadowed or outshined by the usual star power and plugging them into prominent spots on the show.

It worked for Swerve Strickland, who got over with the audience organically last year and eventually ascended to AEW world champion status. There's no reason why someone such as Ricky Starks, Wardlow, Konosuke Takeshita or Jay White can't be afforded that same opportunity.

It would be a welcome alternative to Chris Jericho and The Young Bucks consistently being overexposed. The AEW roster is deep enough that there's plenty of incredible competitors to choose from to feature so the company's momentum never has to be interrupted.

King of the Ring Win Shouldn't Be Wasted on Bloodline Storyline

With their wins last week, Jey Uso, Gunther, Randy Orton and Tama Tonga are all in a position to possibly advance to the finals of King of the Ring in the final days leading up to the pay-per-view.

Gunther vs. Orton is the match that makes the most sense to close out the tournament.

Uso against Tonga would obviously progress the ongoing Bloodline civil war, but that can be done without watering down King of the Ring. Keeping the saga separate from everything else on SmackDown since WrestleMania 40 has been refreshing and should remain the case for the foreseeable future.

It's too soon for Tonga to become king and, as nice of an accolade as it would be for the uber-popular Jey, it's a waste of a win if it doesn't amount to anything for him.

It's much more likely that Gunther would move on to world championship contention on Raw after coming out on top in the tourney, not to mention that Gunther vs. Orton would be a far more appealing matchup in the finals than Uso vs. Tonga.

WWE should find other ways to get Uso interacting with The Bloodline again that don't involve King of the Ring.

Dragunov vs. Gunther, Belair vs. Cargill Should Be Saved for Bigger Stage

WWE went above and beyond to stack the King and Queen of the Ring brackets this year with plenty of star power, which has made for some strong matchups on Raw and SmackDown in the past two weeks.

All signs pointed to Gunther vs. Ilja Dragunov taking place in the finals for the men—especially once it was teased with their backstage confrontation—but Jey Uso knocking off The Mad Dragon on May 13 prevented that from happening.

Ultimately, WWE made the right call to hold off on that marquee match for later down the road when it will mean more, particularly on a pay-per-view stage with a proper build.

The same can be said for the decision to not do Bianca Belair vs. Jade Cargill in the semifinals on the SmackDown side of the Queen of the Ring tourney. With the two recently having won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, there should be no rush in booking that bout.

Playing the long game with both of those matches will be key for WWE, as they have the potential to be massive when they come to fruition.

Mercedes Moné Joining The Elite Would Further Cement Her Heel Status

Turning Mercedes Moné heel was the first step in rectifying her less-than-stellar run with AEW. The next step should be her joining The Elite.

AEW was wise to have her embrace the boos she received during her contract signing with Willow Nightingale on the May 15 Dynamite. Moné has always been much more of a natural heel than a babyface, and she portrays the perfect foil for the beloved Nightingale.

If she does leave Double or Nothing as the new TBS champion, it would be a terrific twist for The Elite to factor into the finish and reveal her as their newest acquisition.

The group already has heat as it is, so Moné aligning with them would simply cement her heel status and ensure she gets booed going forward. Nightingale having the entire faction as an obstacle to overcome would make her an even bigger babyface in the end.

The CEO could gain legitimate power alongside The Elite in their takeover of AEW and earn herself a spot in the company's biggest angle going in the process.
