Heat's Riley on Jimmy Butler Trolling Celtics: Keep Your Mouth Shut If You Don't Play

Pat Riley clearly wasn't amused by Jimmy Butler's comments over the weekend.

The Miami Heat president offered a blunt assessment when asked about Butler's assertion the team would still be playing if he was on the court.

"If you're not on the court playing, you should keep your mouth shut," Riley told reporters Monday.

"If you're not on the court playing, you should keep your mouth shut," Riley told reporters Monday.

Butler made headlines over the weekend by trolling the Celtics and Knicks, saying they would be "home" if he hadn't been injured.

The Heat lost their first-round series against the Celtics in five games. The Knicks eliminated the Philadelphia 76ers in six games.

Butler missed the entire 2024 postseason after suffering an MCL injury during Miami's Play-In Tournament loss to the Sixers. The All-Star guard was injured in the first quarter but attempted to play through the pain, finishing with 19 points on 5-of-18 shooting.

Given the fact the Heat lost to the Sixers by just one point despite Butler being hobbled, he may have a point. Butler has developed a reputation as one of the greatest playoff performers of this generation and led Miami to the NBA Finals last season as a No. 8 seed.

History isn't always bound to repeat itself, but it's clear Butler remains confident in his skills.

Riley just did not appear too happy with his public comments.
