Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has emerged as a possible candidate to be the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

Reporting on SportsCenter on Friday night, McMenamin mentioned Kidd as a name he has heard tied to the Lakers along with Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue and former player J.J. Reddick.

"Guys that they're thinking about and pondering have ties to LeBron James," McMenamin said. "Three of the names I've been told in the last six or seven hours: Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers, Jason Kidd of the Mavericks and J.J. Reddick of ESPN and Mind the Game podcast."

The Lakers fired Darvin Ham on Friday after Los Angeles fell short in the first round of the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets. In Ham's two seasons, the Lakers had to fight their way into the playoffs through the play-in tournament.

Last year, they managed to reach the Western Conference Finals where they also lost to Denver. This time, Los Angeles met the reigning champs in the first round and had no answers as it dropped the series in five games.

Now, Los Angeles is looking for its next head coach, and the candidate could be the current coach of a playoff team.

The Mavericks advanced past the Clippers in six games in the first round and will now face the Oklahoma City Thunder. In Kidd's three seasons at the helm in Dallas, he has reached the playoffs twice—missing last year—and took the team to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2011 two seasons ago.

Whether Kidd would be willing to step away from a solid gig with the Mavericks to potentially lead LeBron James will be the question if the Lakers decide to pursue him.
