Windhorst: Jimmy Butler, Brandon Ingram Possible 76ers Trade Targets amid George Buzz

As the Philadelphia 76ers let the dust settle on another disappointing playoff loss, they are primed to make a big splash this offseason via trade or free agency.

On Friday's episode of Get Up, ESPN's Brian Windhorst mentioned Jimmy Butler and Brandon Ingram as potential trade targets for the Sixers. However, he said Paul George remains "the player at the top of their list" as he prepares to hit the open market this summer.

The rumblings connecting George and the 76ers have been going on for weeks. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on March 28 that the Sixers' desire to sign the nine-time All-Star "is the NBA's worst-kept secret."

Pompey added there are some people in the league who "expect" a deal to happen between the two sides.

George's future remains murky since he has yet to agree to terms on a new contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Windhorst said earlier this week on the Hoop Collective (17:45 mark) that the Clippers "don't" want to give George a max contract because they were able to sign Kawhi Leonard to an extension during the season for less than max money.

Leonard signed a three-year, $149.7 million deal in January. He was eligible to sign for up to four years and $221.2 million.

All of the talk about George's future has come with the Clippers still in the playoffs. They trail the Dallas Mavericks 3-2 in their series and will attempt to keep their season alive in Game 6 on Friday.

Next season will be the final guaranteed season of Butler's current contract. He's owed $48.8 million and has a $52.4 million player option for 2025-26. Ingram is owed $36 million in the final season of his deal in 2024-25.

The Miami Heat need to find a direction this summer coming off their second straight disappointing regular season. They lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Boston Celtics in which their four losses were by an average of 22 points.

Butler will turn 35 in September and has missed 18 games in each of the past four seasons. He played most of the 2018-19 season with the Sixers after being acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In that memorable playoff series between the 76ers and Toronto Raptors, Butler averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game in seven starts.

Ingram just wrapped up his fifth season with the Pelicans. He's also dealt with numerous injuries that have kept him for at least 18 games in each of the past three years.

The 76ers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the New York Knicks in a six-game series in which the Knicks had a total scoring margin of plus-one. They could create up to $65 million in cap space to add one max player before presumably extending Tyrese Maxey on a rookie max deal.
