Cowboys Rumors: Trevon Diggs Expected Back for Training Camp After 2023 Knee Injury

Paul Kasabian

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is expected to be ready for training camp after suffering a torn ACL during a Sept. 21, 2023 practice.

Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News relayed that encouraging note alongside a quote from Diggs' teammate, cornerback Daron Bland:

The 25-year-old Diggs, who has played four NFL seasons, turned heads when he amassed an NFL-high 11 interceptions in 2021 en route to All-Pro honors. He followed that up with his second straight Pro Bowl campaign in 2022.

Diggs played an instrumental role in the Cowboys' vastly improved defense from 2020 (No. 28 in scoring) to 2021 (No. 7). Dallas finished fifth in scoring defense each of the past two seasons.

Having Diggs back is obviously a massive boost to a team that's trying hard to finally break through to the NFC Championship Game (and Super Bowl), places the team hasn't been since 1995. Dallas has won 12 games and made the playoffs each of the past three years, but the postseason hasn't been kind to the Cowboys.

The team sorely missed Diggs last year when Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love carved the defense up in the wild card round, but now he's back to help a Dallas team that could very well make a deep playoff run.

In his absence, Bland stepped up as the team's top defensive back, breaking out with nine interceptions, including an NFL-record five pick-sixes. With both of them healthy in 2024, the Cowboys could very well have another dominant, playmaking defense that puts the team in position for a division title and playoff appearance.
