ESPN: LeBron James Building $100M LA Compound amid Lakers Contract, NBA Future Rumors

LeBron James wouldn't commit to a future with the Lakers on Monday, but he is sticking around Los Angeles.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst noted James is building a $100 million "compound" in Los Angeles and "loves" living in the city.

"I know what LeBron drives in L.A. and I know that LeBron's building a $100 million compound in L.A. LeBron loves being here," Windhorst said Tuesday on First Take. "I know that winning championships is important, and on this show, we try to hold everybody, we get our fingers out, how many you got?

"I think LeBron loves being here and his family is here. And would he like to win another championship with the Lakers, would he like to actually get his Laker parade? Yes, of course he would like to do it. Would he like to have that experience? I think he's 39, going to be 40 years old, he loves being here. He loves the life."

James refused to answer when asked directly if he would return to the Lakers next season. The team is reportedly willing to offer him a three-year, $164 million contract and would even be open to drafting his son, Bronny, to lock in his return, per Shams Charania, Jovan Buha and Sam Amick of The Athletic.

James has a player option for the 2024-25 season, but it's more likely than not he opts out to seek a new contract.

Agent Rich Paul told SiriusXM NBA Radio he expects James to play two or three more seasons in the NBA.

Assuming he returns for the 2024-25 season, James will tie Vince Carter for the most seasons played in NBA history at 22. He would own that record alone if he continues for the 2025-26 season, giving him yet another record of longevity.

James is already the NBA's all-time leader in points with 40,474. He will become the league's all-time record holder in games played and minutes played over the next two seasons, assuming health.

While LeBron was once adamant about playing his final NBA seasons with his son, he's seemingly been more open to Bronny taking his own journey. Bronny James has entered his name in the 2024 NBA draft but is also considering remaining in college and transferring from USC.

Bronny James struggled in his lone season at USC as he returned to the court after going into cardiac arrest last summer.
