Jalen Brunson Sets Knicks Playoff Record, Astounds NBA Fans in Win vs. Embiid, 76ers

Jalen Brunson saw Joel Embiid put 50 points on the New York Knicks in Game 3 and said, "Now watch me cook, too."

The star point guard went off in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series between the teams, setting a Knicks playoff record with 47 points to go along with 10 assists in his team's 97-92 win.

Joel Embiid finished with 27 points, 10 boards, six assists and two blocks but faded late in the second half, as Sixers head coach Nick Nurse chose not to rest him across the final 24 minutes. Tyrese Maxey added 23 points and six, while OG Anunoby posted a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double for the Knicks.

But this was the Brunson show, and fans and pundits alike were astonished by his performance on Sunday:

Brunson's performance was all the more impressive considering he was hobbled at points in the contest with what appeared to be a knee injury, even leaving the game to start the fourth quarter. He returned, however, and continued to pace New York's offense.

The Knicks needed every last point on a night when Josh Hart (four points, 0-from-7 from the field) and Donte DiVincenzo (eight points, 3-from-11 from the field) struggled offensively and Bojan Bogdanović only played one minute before suffering an ankle injury.

Much will be discussed from this game in the aftermath, with the decision not to rest Embiid at all the biggest Sixers storyline. Philly's inability to keep New York off the offensive glass (15 offensive rebounds) played a huge factor too, as did getting just six points from the bench.

The officiating has remained a point of contention for both teams throughout, and the Knicks are now on the cusp of eliminating the Sixers with three chances to do so and Game 5 on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

But the Knicks are in this position because of Brunson's brilliance, first and foremost. He willed his team to victory on Sunday.
