Patriots' Joe Milton Dismisses Rumors of Move from QB to TE: 'That'll Never Happen'

Andrew Peters

After speculation that the New England Patriots' newest quarterback Joe Milton III could transition to tight end, the No. 193 pick cleared the air on the rumors.

"That'll never happen," Milton said, per the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed.

Kyed also noted that Milton hadn't heard about speculation that he could move to tight end.

Milton has the size to be a tight end at 6'5", 235 pounds, but for now, he'll stay under center as he competes to back up No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye.

In his final season at Tennessee, Milton notched 2,813 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also picked up 299 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

While Milton hadn't heard speculation about him transitioning to tight end, several moments through the 2023 season could have led people to believe he could be a fit in the position. Milton routinely ran through and stiff-armed defenders to gain a few extra yards, making some unbelievable moves for a quarterback.

While he has some power on the ground, it was likely Milton's cannon for an arm that got him drafted. Milton can throw a football 70 yards and has arguably the best arm in this year's draft class.

He'll likely have to wait on the sideline behind Maye for a while, but he could eventually turn into an everyday starter in the league.
