Buy or Sell Latest WWE Draft Rumors, AEW Booking Buzz, Goldberg's Asking Price, More

Chris Roling

What should be a quiet stretch for the pro wrestling rumor mill is anything but—with WWE mostly to blame.

Usually, the NFL draft overpowers everything else that occupies the sports space annually. Yet WWE was savvy enough to lean into the draft fever instead of simmering down, hosting its own brand shakeup.

That has created plenty of buzz and rumors, to say the least. But AEW has elbowed its way into the mix on the rumor mill too, mostly thanks to the question of free-agent wrestlers, the biggest name being Goldberg.

To help fans keep up with the rapid pace of the mill right now, here's a look at the must-know buzz and whether it is worth buying or selling on each item.

Big Name Back to the Main Roster?

Speculation about which Superstars go where and why usually features "big" names.

It's easy to forget, then, someone like Baron Corbin.

But according to Fightful's Corey Brennan (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), WWE has some big plans for Corbin, who is currently plotting out his path back to the main roster.

That would mean Corbin making the leap to either Raw or SmackDown and frankly, it feels long overdue. It feels like WWE wants to get some even bigger names down on NXT, where Corbin has done some fantastic work since his arrival.

Corbin has plenty to offer a main roster, too, given what fans have seen of him across multiple different types of roles in the past. Maybe it's not the massive rumor fans want, but it's a notable one—and a buy.

Reason Goldberg Didn't End Up in AEW?

There are a handful of reasons that come to mind when pondering why Goldberg didn't end up in AEW.

Money isn't typically one of them, though.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer (h/t Ortman), Goldberg's "asking price" is the biggest reason the modern legend hasn't landed with WWE's primary opposition.

But this one feels like a sell. Sure, Goldberg probably has a massive asking price, perhaps because he might be an odd stylistic fit in AEW and a few other reasons.

AEW's willingness to meet pretty much any number shouldn't be overlooked, though. They've gone—forgive the pun—all out to sign the likes of Chris Jericho, Edge, Mercedes Moné and so many others. If the company had had the chance to add Goldberg, it's hard to imagine another pricey splash would be the hangup.

Finn Bálor Was an AEW Target?

Of the Superstars suggested as a perfect fit for AEW, Finn Bálor's name reigned supreme as one of the outright top choices.

But there's past tense there for a reason.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), there's a long-term contract extension on the way, which the Superstar himself seemed to confirm in a message on social media.

More interesting, though, was the same report revealing that AEW had Bálor on the list of free agents the company wanted to pursue this year.

Easy buy. Going to a promotion with Jay White and all of the past Bullett Club implications that perfectly fit the AEW style is a no-brainer of a fit that probably would have drawn big global audiences.

Hence the report making it clear that the upcoming deal is a big-money one for Bálor.

Superstar Missing from Draft?

One notable name apparently set to miss the draft is Jimmy Uso.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), Jimmy won't be in the draft in any capacity because he's set to miss time with an injury.

And while it doesn't outright smell like a misdirection, it's one of those real-world things that feels like it doesn't apply to WWE. Jimmy might be injured (in real life, yes), especially after that vicious attack by the new Solo Sikoa-led Bloodline. But that shouldn't prohibit, storyline-wise, from either Raw or SmackDown drafting his rights.

After all, Jimmy eventually showing up whereever Jey is to potentially get the reunion against the Sikoa-led faction feels like a must for this draft to accomplish.

Reason Behind Major AEW Storyline Pushes

As fans might've noticed, AEW has been grasping at a major, long-running storyline in an effort to find things that work.

There was the whole mysterious "Devil" angle at the forefront of things for a little while. And now, there's Tony Khan himself getting thrashed by Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, plus the returning Jack Perry.

According to Meltzer (h/t Ortman), this is all a plan, with Khan "hot-shotting angles" in an attempt at boosting the ratings while a new TV deal looms in the background.

This is an easy buy and just smart booking to lean on some of the top names in the company. Khan knows what he's doing—he even showed up at the NFL draft with the Jacksonville Jaguars in a neck brace to sell the storyline attack.

Point is, this is just good business no matter where TV deals stand, considering the stiff ratings competition AEW receives from the NBA and in the fall from the NFL, among others.

Verdict: Buying
