Drake Maye to Wear No. 10 Patriots Jersey, Makes Tom Brady Joke at Press Conference

Drake Maye's uniform number with the New England Patriots has been settled.

At his introductory press conference with the franchise on Friday, the 2024 No. 3 pick said that he will be wearing No. 10 in New England and made a joke that referenced Patriots legend Tom Brady's iconic No. 12 jersey:

Brady spent 20 years with the Patriots, winning six Super Bowls and leading the franchise to a 219-64 record. While Maye will not be expected to live up to that staggering tenure, New England surely hopes he can bring New England back to glory.

The Patriots went 3-14 in 2023, their worst record since 1992. That put New England in a position to draft Maye and carve a new identity following the departure of long-time head coach Bill Belichick.

Maye threw for 8,018 yards and 63 touchdowns during his collegiate career at UNC. He also added 1,209 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. He was rated as the No. 1 quarterback and the No. 3 overall player in the 2024 draft by Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.

Incidentally, Maye will be wearing the number that Brady wore in college at Michigan. It is also the number that Patriots 2021 first-round pick Mac Jones wore before he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in March.
