Drake Maye is excited to join the New England Patriots.

After the former North Carolina quarterback was selected by New England with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Maye predicted that the Patriots are going to "win a lot of games" with him under center.

"I'm ready," Maye said. "I'm ready to go compete. I'm ready to get to New England, let's have a blast."

While speaking with reporters after being drafted, Maye said he wants to carve out a path for himself in Foxborough, adding that he's "not going to try to be Tom Brady" during his New England tenure.

The 21-year-old established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in college football throughout the past two seasons, passing for over 3,600 yards and 24 touchdowns in both 2022 and 2023.

His ability to operate as a dual-threat quarterback should help New England, as he rushed for 1,147 yards and found the end zone 16 times on the ground since the start of his 2022 season.

Maye told the media that he was "stoked" and "super pumped" to join the Patriots, calling the evening one of the best nights of his life (per Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal).

Although the organization was fielding trade offers for the No. 3 overall pick prior to the draft, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero revealed earlier on Thursday that "all signs" pointed to New England standing pat and selecting the former Tar Heels signal-caller.

The New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings were two of the interested teams, as Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston listed both organizations when mentioning a possible trade of the No. 3 choice before the draft began.

The Patriots' desire to bring in a new franchise quarterback has been apparent, as they dealt former starter Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars on March 14. New England's offense struggled to sustain drives throughout the 2023 season, averaging the third-fewest yards per game among NFL teams.

Maye and new head coach Jerod Mayo will look to usher in a new era of Patriots football in 2024.
