The New York Giants stood pat with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, selecting LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers.

Although SNY's Connor Hughes reported that the Giants were "actively trying to move up" for a quarterback such as Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy, the team ultimately remained at No. 6 and took Nabers.

The 20-year-old improved his production in each of his three seasons with the Tigers, including a 2023 campaign in which he racked up 89 catches for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He should immediately contribute on New York team that was in need of wide receiver help, as Darius Slayton was the team's only wideout to surpass 600 yards in 2023. Giants fans were excited with the selection of Nabers.

With former Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. heading to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 4, the Giants took the second wideout off the board. Although Harrison was selected first, the gap between the two wasn't that large. In fact, one veteran wide receivers coach in the NFL had Nabers ranked above the Buckeyes' standout heading into the draft (per Bruce Feldman of The Athletic).

As Daniel Jones is recovering from a torn ACL, his life will be a bit easier when he's able to return to the field with Nabers. As the top option for Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels at LSU, Nabers showcased his ability to blow by opposing cornerbacks downfield and consistently operate as a threat whenever the ball was in his hands.

He finished as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award in 2023, which is given to the most outstanding receiver in the country.

Although he didn't test at the scouting combine in Indianapolis, his explosiveness was on full display at the Tigers' pro day. Nabers recorded a 42" vertical and a 40-yard dash time of 4.35 seconds.

While Jones' season-ending injury was a factor, it's worth noting that the Giants owned the NFL's second-worst passing offense in 2023.

As the former first-round pick returns to the field with Nabers out wide, New York's passing attack should greatly improve during the 2024 season.
