Rome Odunze, Michael Penix Jr., More Sign Adidas Contracts Before 2024 NFL Draft

Prior to the start of the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday, Adidas announced that it signed four potential first-round picks to endorsement deals.

Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze and quarterback Michael Penix Jr., Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette all agreed to deals with the brand, and Adidas Vice President of Sports Marketing Chris McGuire said the following about the partnerships:

"Rome, Michael, Adonai and Xavier are among the most promising prospects in the draft following exceptional careers at their respective collegiate programs. In addition to welcoming Adonai and Xavier as new members of the Adidas family, we're proud that Rome and Michael—our first NIL football athletes—remain with the three stripes as they begin their highly anticipated professional careers."

Odunze and Penix, who both played for an Adidas-branded school in Washington, both had name, image and likeness deals with Adidas in college, and it will carry over to the professional ranks.

Of Adidas' four signings, Odunze seems likely to be the first player off the board Thursday, as he is widely considered to be one of the top three wideouts in the draft along with Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU's Malik Nabers, and a likely top-10 pick.

Behind USC's Caleb Williams, LSU's Jayden Daniels, North Carolina's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy in the eyes of most draft experts, Penix isn't a slam dunk first-rounder, but he has a solid chance to hear his name called Thursday since there are so many quarterback-needy teams.

Penix finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting last season, completing 65.4 percent of his passes for 4,903 yards, 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions en route to leading Washington to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

While Penix had a stacked receiving corps at his disposal, Odunze was his favorite target, racking up 92 catches for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Mitchell and Legette are both of the borderline between being first- or second-round picks, but they are two of the most physically gifted receivers in the draft.

After winning back-to-back national titles at Georgia, Mitchell transferred to Texas and popped off for 55 grabs, 845 yards and 11 scores last season.

Legette had almost no role in the South Carolina offense over his first four seasons, but it finally clicked for him in 2023, as he registered 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.

Odunze, Penix, Mitchell and Legette join a robust roster of NFL stars already aligned with Adidas, including Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, among others.
