Sauce Gardner Says Jets Will Draft DB or DL at No. 10 Pick: 'Can't Reveal My Source'

Amid all of the buzz about a pass-catcher or offensive lineman being selected at No. 10 in the 2024 NFL draft, Sauce Gardner says the New York Jets will go in a different direction.

The two-time All-Pro cornerback, citing an unnamed source, said on X his team will be taking either a defensive back or defensive lineman in the first round.

DraftKings Sportsbook has an offensive lineman as the betting favorite at -115 (bet $115 to win $100) for the Jets in the first round, followed by wide receiver and tight end (tied at +200).

Gardner's information seems to run counter to everything that has been reported about what the Jets' first-round plans are.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reported Wednesday that Jets general manager Joe Douglas was "exploring" potential trade-up scenarios to add a playmaker for Aaron Rodgers.

"It would be the ultimate win-now move," Cimini wrote, "giving up current (and perhaps future) draft capital to move up for a pass-catcher. Douglas is an aggressive GM, having traded up in the first round in two of his four drafts. In those cases, though, he had multiple first-round picks."

Brock Bowers has been a popular option for the Jets in the predraft scuttlebutt. If they decide not to go for a pass-catcher, the assumption has been they will target an offensive lineman.

During a predraft media call last week, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah cited Bowers, Taliese Fuaga and Troy Fautanu as the most likely options for the Jets at 10 if Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze and Joe Alt are off the board.

One reason to entertain Gardner's information, aside from his connection to the organization, is because Jets head coach Robert Saleh is a defensive-minded coach and their last two first-round picks have been on that side of the ball.

Last year, when Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison were all on the board, the Jets opted to go with Will McDonald IV with the No. 15 pick.

Rodgers' presence is looming over everything for the Jets. They invested in the offensive line and the wide receiver group in free agency, but Tyron Smith and Mike Williams aren't exactly known for their durability.

If the Jets want to add athleticism at pass-catcher or offensive line, it wouldn't be a surprise if they prioritized those spots early in the draft. If they want to boost an already strong defense, they might have their pick of the best defensive player in this class based on how many offensive players seem likely to come off the board in the top 10.
