Raiders Trade Rumors: Penix Jr., Spencer Rattler Linked Despite 'Love' for Daniels

Julia Stumbaugh

The Las Vegas Raiders "would love" to draft Jayden Daniels, but the LSU quarterback may be out of their reach if the Washington Commanders select him with Thursday's No. 2 pick, per ESPN's Dan Graziano.

In that case the Raiders could consider pursuing Washington's Michael Penix Jr., Oregon's Bo Nix or South Carolina's Spencer Rattler, Graziano and Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday.

The Raiders currently hold the No. 13 pick, then select again at No. 44.

According to Graziano, the Raiders have had talks with the Arizona Cardinals about a trade up for No. 4, but that decision would come only after the first three selections are off the board.

At that point, Las Vegas' interest in the trade would "cool off significantly" if Daniels had already been drafted, per Graziano.

"The Raiders are also thought to be high on Penix, and if the quarterback market starts drying up quickly and they feel they need to trade up in order to avoid being shut out, the Chargers at No. 5 and the Titans at No. 7 are two teams that people believe are willing to trade down," Graziano reported.

"I've also heard Daniels has interest in playing for Pierce and the Raiders," Fowler added. That interest is mutual, though as Dan said, Las Vegas moving up from No. 13 to No. 2 just isn't very plausible right now. Penix, [Oregon quarterback Bo Nix] and even South Carolina's Spencer Rattler could very much be in play for the Raiders down the board."

The Los Angeles Chargers, who last season extended Justin Herbert through 2029, and the Tennessee Titans, who have Will Levis pegged as a starter next season, could be passing on a quarterback in the first round, making them targets for potential trades up.

Penix is projected as a first-round pick in the latest 2024 NFL mock draft by the B/R NFL Scouting Department. The B/R NFL scouts don't currently have Nix or Rattler projected as first-round picks, but high demand for signal callers this spring could potentially push either one up higher than predicted.
