NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Jayden Daniels' Camp, Commanders Have 'Smoothed Over' Issues

Paul Kasabian

Rumors of apparent discord between LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels' camp and the Washington Commanders have apparently been "smoothed over," per Albert Breer of MMQB on Tuesday.

"A team in the top 10 told me Monday they'd heard that any remaining issues between the Commanders and Jayden Daniels's camp had been smoothed over," Breer wrote.

"And I'm not finding many people with rival teams that don't think the Heisman winner is D.C.-bound."

ESPN's Adam Schefter previously reported that Daniels' agent wasn't thrilled that the reigning Heisman Trophy winner's predraft visit also included other quarterback prospects.

"It didn't seem to go over too well with his agent who sounded off on social media that he didn't seem particularly pleased with the process," Schefter said on Get Up! earlier this week.

"Daniels thought it would be a visit for just him, but Washington essentially opened up the process."

ESPN's John Keim reported that Washington hosted Daniels, UNC's Drake Maye, Washington's Michael Penix Jr. and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy simultaneously on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Per Bryan Manning of USA Today, Ron Butler of Agency 1 Sports (Daniels' representation) liked two posts on X that criticized the Commanders for hosting all four prospects at once.

Then came word that Daniels had interest in going to other teams, per Schefter on the Pat McAfee Show.

However, if Breer's report is any indication, then signs point to all being well now and Daniels going second to the Commanders, who are looking for their franchise signal-caller as the team embarks on a new era under owner Josh Harris, general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. They'll have their choice of anyone but USC's Caleb Williams, who is all but certain to go first to the Chicago Bears.

It's obviously important for the new quarterback and team to get off on the right foot in hopes of fully pushing the disastrous Dan Snyder era into the rearview mirror, and it seems things are now going in a positive direction with the NFL draft rapidly approaching on Thursday.
