Caleb Williams Hypes Rome Odunze on Flight to 2024 NFL Draft amid Bears Rumors

Amid rumblings the Chicago Bears could be targeting a wide receiver with their second first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, presumptive No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams gave a not-so-subtle shoutout to Rome Odunze.

Williams posted on X he was a "big fan" of Odunze's and they were on the same flight to Detroit for the draft.

Odunze later responded to Williams with a post of his own:

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Williams and Odunze also recently worked out together in Chicago:

The Bears own picks No. 1 and No. 9 in the first round. They have been primarily connected to wide receivers, offensive linemen and EDGE rushers with that second selection if they keep it.

The MMQB's Albert Breer reported on Monday opposing teams "have gotten the sense" the Bears will attempt to move down to add more picks.

As things currently stand, Chicago only has four picks in the draft and none until No. 75 after the ninth spot. The reason for the limited pick capital is good because it's been traded to boost the roster.

The Bears traded their second-round pick to the Washington Commanders for Montez Sweat. They sent their fourth-rounder to the Los Angeles Chargers for Keenan Allen.

Breer did cite a couple of friends of Bears general manager Ryan Poles who said if they don't trade down, they will "be looking to add talent around Williams."

It's unclear if that means a receiver or offensive lineman. Having Allen and D.J. Moore at wide receiver does give the Bears flexibility, though Allen may not be a long-term solution. He's going to turn 32 on April 27 and is entering the final season of his contract.

If Odunze is still on the board at No. 9, it's not hard to be tempted because of what an offense would look like with Williams at quarterback and that trio of receivers catching passes from him.

Williams won't be in the draft room with Chicago's decision-makers, but it seems obvious based on his message that Odunze would be his choice if he's available.
