NFL WR Coach: Malik Nabers Ranks over Marvin Harrison Jr. 'on a Lot of' Big Boards

The talk of Malik Nabers being the top-ranked wide receiver in the 2024 NFL draft class isn't limited to analysts.

Per The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, one veteran wide receivers coach in the NFL has the LSU standout ranked ahead of Marvin Harrison Jr. in this year's draft:

"Nabers is the No. 1 on my list and I think he is on a lot of people's lists. He's just different to me. I don't think it's anything toward Marvin, it's just really that Nabers is that good. His skills with the ball in his hands are really different. His acceleration is just different. His explosive is different. He tracks the ball really well. He's a smaller guy but he can still play outside. He's rare in a lot of ways. He's got some Ja'Marr Chase in him, some DJ Moore skills. I hesitate to say this because Tyreek Hill's speed is just so different from anybody in the league, but Nabers has some of that kind of burst and just so explosive off the line of scrimmage."

Another coach, an offensive assistant, told Feldman "there's a gap" between Nabers and every other wideout in the class, while calling him a combination of Tyreek Hill, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

There has been a lot of buzz about Nabers moving past Harrison in the pre-draft process.

ESPN's Louis Riddick said last week "there are suddenly many evaluators" who have the 20-year-old as the top receiver because he is "just as capable of winning on short routes out of the slot with his smooth release, contested-catch strength and ability to break tackles as he is when aligned outside and running the deep posts, sails and go routes."

It's unclear if this will result in Nabers actually being the first receiver off the board on Thursday night.

B/R's NFL scouting department, which ranked Harrison as the top overall player in the class, projected the Ohio State star to be the first receiver drafted at No. 4 by the Arizona Cardinals in its most recent mock draft.

Nabers' rise from his final season at LSU and throughout the pre-draft process at least makes the debate over WR1 more interesting in draft rooms.

A unanimous All-American selection in 2023, Nabers led the Tigers with 89 receptions and 1,569 yards last season.
