Erik Beaston

The futures of all 32 franchises will be altered in Detroit beginning April 25 and running through 27 as part of the 2024 NFL Draft, in which the best and brightest collegiate players will find out for which teams they will continue their playing careers.

From quarterbacks to centers, wide receivers to cornerbacks, teams will look to acquire the players they believe will put them over the top and turn them into legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Or, at the very least, bring stability to the franchise for the foreseeable future.

Ahead of the massive, team-altering event, enjoy this look at the current draft order, first-round predictions, Offensive Rookie of the Year odds, and the position to keep an eye on.

Quarterbacks Dominate the Discussion

There could be upwards of five quarterbacks taken in the first round of this year's NFL Draft.

Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels could hear their names at the top of the night, in picks 1-3, as the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots look to rebuild their once-proud franchises at the most important position in the game.

Then there is J.J. McCarthy, whose physical skill set intrigues but who has yet to prove that he can be the guy who can carry a team on his back. In Michigan, he benefited from a run-first offense and a head coach in Jim Harbaugh who understood how to best utilize him to the best of his abilities.

Whether he has that in the NFL or is exposed, remains to be seen but there is enough in the 21-year-old Wolverine that a team would likely feel comfortable selecting him in round one.

The question then becomes whether Washington Husky standout Michael Penix Jr. hears his name in the first round or has to wait until the second.

ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. has the national title runner-up going to the Los Angeles Rams in a trade that would set him up as the successor to Matthew Stafford.

There is certainly an argument to be made for Pennix over McCarthy, especially given the success he had this past season in leading his team to the national title game. The question is whether teams believe he is on the level of the other four, or if at least some of his success was the direct result of consensus top 10 wideout, Rome Odunze.
