Aaron Judge Talks Boos from Yankees Fans amid Struggles, Says He's 'Heard Worse'

New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge isn't sweating the negative reaction he received from Yanks fans amid his struggles during Saturday's 2-0 home loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Judge, who is off to a slow start this season, went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts on Saturday, and the boo birds were out in full force for Judge's Golden Sombrero.

While Judge hasn't been booed often by the home fans during his nine-year career, he didn't blame them for their reaction:

Judge noted that he has "heard worse," and would "probably do the same thing" if the roles were reversed.

Saturday was a pitcher's duel between Yankees starter Nestor Cortés and Rays starter Zach Eflin, as neither of them surrendered a run, resulting in the game going to extra innings.

After the Rays scored two runs in the top of the 10th, the Yankees were unable to answer in the bottom of the frame.

In the bottom of the ninth, both Juan Soto and Anthony Rizzo came just short of walk-off home runs, while Judge looked lost on his fourth strikeout of the day.

Judge is a five-time All-Star and one-time American League MVP with the single-season AL record for home runs to his credit with 62, but the 31-year-old veteran hasn't looked like himself so far this season.

Through 21 games, Judge is slashing just .179/.323/.359 with three home runs and 11 RBI. He has also struck out 27 times in 78 at-bats.

While Judge's slow start is worrisome due to his injury history and the possibility that something could be nagging him, it is somewhat mitigated by the fact that New York is off to a great start as a team.

Even with Saturday's loss, the Bronx Bombers are in first place in the AL East at 14-7 and have the second-best record in the American League behind only the 14-6 Cleveland Guardians.

With offseason acquisition Juan Soto playing like an MVP candidate, Judge getting on track is an exciting prospect for Yankees fans, but the early-season slump hasn't been busted yet.
