Giants GM: Multiple Teams Have Called About Trading Up to No. 6 in 2024 NFL Draft

The New York Giants have been rumored as a potential trade-up team in the 2024 NFL draft, but that isn't stopping clubs from gauging their interest in moving down in the first round.

General manager Joe Schoen told reporters Thursday they've received "a lot of calls" from teams interested in acquiring the No. 6 overall pick.

Schoen went on to say he's been surprised by the volume of calls he's gotten about their first-round selection.

One possible reason for the interest in the Giants' selection is because they are a team that a lot of the quarterback-needy clubs picking after them are keeping an eye on.

There has been buzz during the predraft process that Michigan's J.J. McCarthy is the player New York wants with its first pick.

While there was a time when it seemed like McCarthy might be available at No. 6 overall, it's starting to feel less likely that ends up being the case. He's been connected to the Washington Commanders with the second pick, and the New England Patriots at No. 3 are also likely to draft a quarterback.

If McCarthy makes it past the top three picks, the Arizona Cardinals at No. 4 become an obvious trade-down candidate if a team wants to make a big offer for the quarterback.

The Minnesota Vikings are a team that everyone seems to be watching. They have already acquired a second first-round pick in a trade with the Houston Texans, so they currently pick at Nos. 11 and 23.

The Denver Broncos (No. 12) and Las Vegas Raiders (No. 13) also figure to be in the quarterback market early in the draft.

NFL.com's Peter Schrager projected the Giants to make a trade with the Cardinals for the No. 4 pick to select McCarthy in his mock draft released Tuesday. He said on The Dan Patrick Show that multiple general managers reached out to him asking how he arrived at that conclusion:

Schoen did note the Giants would be "comfortable" entering the 2024 season with Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito as their top three quarterbacks.

Everything at this point on the calendar should be taken with huge grains of salt. The draft is one week away and virtually every general manager is putting information out there in an effort to manipulate other teams, especially in an attempt to increase potential trade offers.
