Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Rematch Added to Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Fight Card

Netflix announced Tuesday that Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will do battle for the undisputed women's super lightweight boxing title on July 20.

The bout, which will be on the undercard of the exhibition pitting Mike Tyson against Jake Paul, will be a rematch of the first fight between Taylor and Serrano from April 2022.

Taylor won that fight by split decision, handing Serrano only the second loss of her professional career and winning the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring women's lightweight titles in the process.

Per ESPN's Marc Raimondi, both Taylor and Serrano released statements regarding what could be the biggest fight in the history of women's boxing.

"This is the rematch the world has wanted to see, and I'm delighted that it's finally happening," Taylor said. "The first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing, and I'm sure the rematch will be no different."

Serrano added: "I promised my fans they would see this rematch after we made history at MSG and it feels like a dream come true to know that Katie and I are finally making it happen on the biggest stage possible to show the world what elite women's boxing is all about. I believe I won our first fight, but I didn't get the decision, so this time I'm not leaving it to the judges."

Tyson, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, expressed excitement for the co-main event as well, saying:

"Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are two of the best boxers in the world. I know they can both put on an incredible show, and I'm thrilled to have them join this card. These remarkable athletes will undoubtedly elevate the event with their global appeal and fan bases. Adding one of the greatest fights in women's boxing history to this unforgettable event is a true gift to fans."

The 35-year-old Serrano fights under the banner of Paul's Most Valuable Promotions, which made her a natural fit to co-main event the Tyson vs. Paul card.

Serrano had been scheduled to defend the WBA, WBO and IBF women's featherweight titles against Nina Meinke in her home country of Puerto Rico in March, but she was unable to compete due to an eye injury.

On that same card, Paul defeated Ryan Bourland by first-round knockout to improve to 9-1 in his pro career.

Serrano is pound-for-pound one of the best women's boxers of all time as evidenced by her career record of 46-2-1.

Prior to the controversial defeat against Taylor, Serrano had not lost since falling to Frida Wallberg by unanimous decision in 2012. Serrano bounced back after the loss to Taylor, though, reeling off four consecutive wins.

As for Taylor, the 37-year-old veteran from Ireland is now 23-1, although the win over Serrano improved her career record to 21-0.

Two fights after beating Serrano, Taylor somewhat shockingly fell to Chantelle Cameron in a light welterweight title match in May 2023.

Taylor lost that bout by majority decision, but in the rematch in November 2023, Taylor won by majority decision and recaptured her light welterweight titles.

The Tyson vs. Paul card has a chance to be one of the biggest and most-watched boxing events of all time since it will be available to all Netflix subscribers and will be one of the first major live sporting events streamed by Netflix.

There was some thought that Serrano vs. Meinke would be rescheduled after it had to be called off last month, but given that Serrano vs. Taylor is the biggest possible fight in women's boxing right now, it was a fitting addition to the Tyson vs. Paul event.
