NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: J.J. McCarthy to Visit Commanders Amid Patriots, Giants Buzz

Andrew Peters

Amid buzz that he could be drafted by the New York Giants or New England Patriots, Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is set to meet with the Washington Commanders, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

McCarthy has already met with the Patriots and Giants, who have the No. 3 and No. 6 picks, respectively. He has also had private workouts with the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos and Giants. The Commanders have the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft.

Bleacher Report's Scouting Department considers McCarthy to be the No. 33 overall prospect and the No. 4 quarterback in the draft class behind North Carolina's Drake Maye, USC's Caleb Williams and LSU's Jayden Daniels.

In the latest mock draft, McCarthy is projected to go to the Vikings with the No. 11 pick.

In 2023, McCarthy threw for 2,991 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and four interceptions, leading the Wolverines to a national championship. He had a 72.3 percent completion percentage, which was a Michigan record and ranked among the highest in college football last year.

McCarthy's stock has risen significantly over the past few months thanks to an impressive pro day. He was seen as the No. 7 quarterback by Bleacher Report's Scouting Department in January, but has risen to No. 4.

Now, the quarterback has found himself in a position where he could be selected inside the top 10.

It's clear the Commanders are looking to draft a quarterback with the No. 2 pick, but who that quarterback will be remains the question. The Chicago Bears, who have the first pick, are expected to take Williams, but that still leaves Washington with plenty of solid options.

If McCarthy doesn't go second overall, it seems likely he will still be one of the first quarterbacks off the board.
