Lakers' Anthony Davis Says His Arm Went Numb While Playing Through Injury vs. Nuggets

After the Los Angeles Lakers' season-ending 108-106 loss to the Denver Nuggets in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series on Monday, Lakers All-Star big man Anthony Davis revealed that he played through a significant injury.

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Davis said he "played through a stinger injury to his left shoulder that caused his left arm to go numb and hang from the socket."

Even so, AD was highly effective in the loss, scoring 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds.

During the regular season, Davis averaged 24.7 points and 12.6 rebounds in 76 games, marking the first time in his 12-year career that he played in more than 75 games in a single season.

He earned an All-Star nod while leading the Lakers with 35.5 minutes per game during the regular season.

After making fewer than 55 starts in three straight seasons while limited by injury, Davis' availability during the regular season was a key reason the Lakers qualified for the playoffs.

Davis also elevated his level of play during the postseason, averaging 27.8 points, 15.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 blocks per game.

While Davis and LeBron James were both excellent in the series, the Lakers were unable to get past the defending NBA champions in the Nuggets.

James' future with the Lakers is somewhat in question since he can opt out of his contract and become a free agent this offseason if he so chooses, but the 31-year-old Davis is under contract through the 2027-28 season.

The Lakers will have a chance to contend for a championship as long as they have Davis and James, and as long as both of them stay healthy.

AD will have some time to heal up from his stinger, but since he is part of Team USA's men's basketball team at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, he will need to be good to go by late July in order to play.
