Tiger Woods continued his bid to make the cut at Augusta National on Friday by chipping in for a birdie in the second round of the 2024 Masters Tournament.

The chip shot on No. 6 marked Woods' second birdie of the round.

He also marked consecutive bogeys earlier in the round, leaving him one over par heading into No. 7.

Woods finished the first round on Friday with a 1-over 73. If he makes the top-50 cut after the second round, he will become the first golfer in history to accomplish the feat at the Masters 24 straight times.

Woods has never missed the Masters cut during his professional career, and he entered the day at 1-under through 13 holes and a spot in the top 50.

He played five holes before the second round Friday due to a weather delay impacting Thursday's opening round.

That left 23 holes to play Friday, presenting a difficult test for Woods, who hasn't played through an entire PGA Tour event since undergoing ankle surgery in April 2023. Most recently he withdrew from The Genesis Invitational in February with flu-like symptoms.

To make things more difficult, after finishing the opening round Friday, Woods had less than an hour to rest before starting the second.

Woods "appeared to be moving a bit more slowly than he had on Thursday" as the day began, as noted by Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

He made par through two holes before recording his first birdie of the round on No. 3.

Bryson DeChambeau completed the first round with a 7-under 65 to take the lead, while Scottie Scheffler finished one shot back.

Woods is statistically unlikely to chase these leaders. The large majority of Masters winners finish the first round within five shots of the lead, per The Athletic's Justin Ray, while Woods fell to eight back before entering the second round.

Fans will now root for the five-time Masters winner to make a historic 24th tournament cut Friday afternoon.
