Masters Cut Line 2024: Latest Projections After Thursday's Leaderboard Analysis

Timothy Rapp

With only the top 50 players—plus whatever leftovers make it in due to ties—making the cut at The Masters after Friday's second round, more than a few players find themselves in the danger zone on Thursday evening.

Even with the round suspended and a number of players yet to finish their opening 18 holes, we have a pretty good idea for who might be moving on—and who is in serious trouble.

At present, the cut line would appear to be at 1-over, with 53 golfers on the right side of that boundary. That leaves 36 players on the precipice of being sent home after 36 holes.

There are some big names in serious peril. Jordan Spieth is currently at 2-over, though he's only through 11 holes in the first round. Perhaps Thursday's suspended play and a chance to regroup on Friday will do him some good.

Zach Johnson, on the other hand, sits at 4-over and he completed his opening round. He'll need to bring his A-game on Friday. Rickie Fowler and former champion Hidecki Matsuyama also find themselves at 4-over after a full round on Thursday.

And at the very bottom of the leaderboard comes Peter Malnati, 10-over after 18 holes. There isn't any coming back from that.

What about the players who are currently just barely on the right side of the projected cut?

Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, Wyndham Clark, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa all sit at 1-over. Both Johnson and Morikawa are through 10 holes, while Watson is through 15 and the rest finished their opening round.

And 10 players overall are even-par thus far, most notably Xander Schauffele (through 18), Sergio Garcia (18), Justin Thomas (18) and Brooks Koepka (11).

Golf fans will be pleased that Tiger Woods is trending toward making the cut, currently 1-under after 13 holes. Woods probably isn't going to be in the running to win another Green Jacket, but if he keeps up his current form he'll be playing into the weekend.

Rory McIlroy is also 1-under and finished his round. Another solid Friday will see him through to the weekend.

All in all, some very big names might night be playing past Friday at Augusta National. Everybody who continues appears likely to be chasing Bryson DeChambeau (-7) and the red-hot Scottie Scheffler (-6), the resounding favorite coming into the tournament. Both got a full round in on Thursday.
