Tiger Woods got off to a strong start at the Masters on Thursday.

Woods carded a birdie on his first hole of the tournament, dropping in a putt to the delight of the crowd at Augusta National Golf Club.

Of Woods' 15 major championship wins, five have occurred at the Masters. The 48-year-old's most recent win at Augusta was in 2019, and he has been appearing at the tournament since he first qualified as a 19-year-old back in 1995.

Woods will be attempting to make the cut at the Masters for the 24th consecutive time, breaking the record that he currently shares with golf legends Fred Couples and Gary Player.

Thursday's birdie represented the second time in his career that Woods has recorded a birdie on the first hole of the tournament, with his first coming in 1999.

Woods was cautiously optimistic about his chances of earning a sixth green jacket, telling the media that he thinks he can get "one more."

"If everything comes together, I think I can get one more," he said, according to Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press.

Prior to his first round, Woods told reporters on Tuesday that his body didn't allow him to return for the 2024 Players Championship or the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

"Well, I wasn't ready to play," Woods said, per Stephen Hennessey of Golf Digest. "My body wasn't ready. My game wasn't ready. And I thought that when I was at Hero, once a month would be a really nice rhythm. Hasn't worked out that way. But now we have major championships every month from here through July. So now the once a month hopefully kicks in."

He didn't appear to be hampered by any health issues at the start of the first round on Thursday, though.
