Imagination, ridden by jockey Lanfranco Dettori and trained by Bob Baffert, finished runner-up in the Grade 1 event at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.

Here's a breakdown of Saturday's top five finishers and the payouts from the race.

Analysis

Stronghold, with jockey Antonio Fresu, entered the race already holding 25 qualification points thanks in large part to a February win at the 2024 Sunland Derby.

Trained by Philip D'Amato, Stronghold is now guaranteed to get a bid to the Kentucky Derby next month.

Runner-up Imagination has now finished second or better in every one of his six starts, but viewers currently can't expect to see him at the Kentucky Derby.

Imagination and fellow Santa Anita competitor Wynstock, also trained by Baffert, are currently not be eligible for the Kentucky Derby. Baffert was suspended from Churchill Downs after first-place Derby finisher Medina Spirit failed a drug test after the 2021 race.

There is still a chance Baffert could have a horse in the Derby next month, however. A pending lawsuit in Jefferson County, Kentucky, is seeking a temporary injunction that would allow his horses to run in the Derby, according to John Cherwa of the Los Angeles Times.

EJ Won the Cup, who finished in third with jockey Mike E. Smith, will now have the chance to contend for a spot in the Derby.

Trained by Doug F. O'Neill, EJ Won the Cup previously won the Turf Paradise Derby in Phoenix, Arizona.

Curlin's Kaos, ridden by jockey Diego A. Herrera and trained by Antonio C. Garcia, defied money line odds to end up on the board.

Jockey Umberto Rispoli rode Tapalo, who finished fifth to gain 10 valuable qualification points. Tapalo was trained by John Sadler, who previously trained the 2010 and 2021 winners of the Santa Anita Derby.

The 150th Kentucky Derby, which offers a $5 million purse, will take place May 4.
