The shoes that Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce wore during Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals are currently listed on eBay for $39,950.

While game-worn sneakers by a Hall of Fame forward in the NBA Finals are certainly valuable, the high price stems from the infamous story behind Pierce's brief absence in the second half of the contest.

In the third quarter of a game that the Celtics would eventually win by the score of 98-88, the All-Star forward went down with an apparent injury. He was carried off the floor by his teammates before eventually exiting on a wheelchair.

However, he returned before the game was over and helped Boston jump out to an early 1-0 lead before the team eventually took the series in six games. After some speculation regarding his surprisingly quick recovery, Pierce admitted in 2019 that he left the game because he simply needed to use the bathroom.

By the end of the night, Pierce scored 22 points and grabbed four rebounds while shooting 7-10 from the floor and 3-4 from behind the arc in 31 minutes of action.

He finished the series by averaging 21.8 points and 6.3 assists per game, shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three. The Celtics won their 17th championship, while Pierce was named Finals MVP.
