A instant classic went down in San Antonio on Friday evening as Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama and New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson authored epic performances.

The scorching-hot Brunson scored a career-high 61 points on 25-of-47 shooting, but the Spurs emerged victorious 130-126 in overtime behind Wembanyama's 40 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists.

The Spurs led 104-91 early in the fourth before the Knicks' 15-3 run closed the gap to one. It was a back-and-forth affair from there, with Wembanyama and Brunson leading the way.

New York eventually took a 119-117 lead, but Wembanyama fired back with a bucket. Then Brunson hit one of his own for a 121-119 edge.

Wembanyama hit a pair of huge free throws to tie the game at 121 with 24 seconds left. Knicks guard Miles McBride got a look from three to win it for New York, but it was no good, and the game went to OT.

Once there, Wembanyama made two huge buckets—a putback layup to put the Spurs up 125-121 and a massive three-pointer to give San Antonio the 128-124 edge.

Before the last Wemby bucket, Brunson crossed the 60-point marker with this big shot:

The drama didn't end until the final seconds. With the Knicks down 128-126, Brunson had a look from three in the closing seconds, but it did not connect. The Knicks fumbled the ball out-of-bounds, Tre Jones hit a pair of free throws and the Spurs won by four.

Simply put, Wembanyama and Brunson put on masterclass performances, and fellow players, fans and analysts alike took notice.

The Knicks don't have much time to rest with the second-place Oklahoma City Thunder rolling into town on Sunday evening. The Spurs will welcome Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors on the same day.
