Browns' Deshaun Watson Remains on Schedule amid Shoulder Injury Rehab, GM Says

After suffering a shoulder injury last November that forced him to miss the second half of the 2023 season, Deshaun Watson is reportedly on schedule to make a comeback in September, per Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot.

Watson threw for the first time this week at UCLA in a session with his private quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery and tight end David Njoku, who caught his passes. Browns general manager Andrew Berry said Tuesday at league meetings in Orlando that the rehab process has been "really positive."

"All the medical work that's been done at this point in time, Deshaun's recovery so far, it's been really positive," Berry said. "We're not anticipating any issues."

In six games last season, Watson threw for 1,115 passing yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions.

Since joining the Browns in 2022, Watson has played just 12 games across two seasons. He was suspended for the first 11 games in 2022 after he was accused by more than two dozen women of sexual misconduct.

Watson missed three games and part of one in October with a shoulder injury before suffering a high-ankle sprain and a broken bone in his shoulder in November, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

Now seemingly on track to start for the Browns in September, Watson is looking to have a big year. In his last full season, Watson led the league with 4,823 passing yards and notched 33 passing touchdowns.

Despite losing their starting quarterback early in the season, the Browns managed to reach the playoffs with Joe Flacco under center, though they were bounced in the wild-card round in blowout fashion by the Houston Texans.

Cleveland signed Watson to a massive five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract upon trading for him ahead of the 2022 season, but the Browns haven't been able to get much from him so far. If Watson can stay healthy in 2024, it could be a big year for Cleveland.
