Drake Maye Says He's 'Proven Winner' at UNC Pro Day Ahead of 2024 NFL Draft

As Drake Maye gears up for the NFL draft where he is expected to be a top selection, the North Carolina quarterback has a message for interested teams.

In an interview with ACC Network after his pro day at North Carolina, Maye said that he's a proven winner and is ready to showcase that in the NFL.

"I'm a competitor. It doesn't matter if we're racing to that door over there or I'm playing pickleball, playing whatever, or on the field where it matters," Maye said. "I'm a proven winner and I'm ready to go out and compete and I'm ready to go out there and do my thing."

Maye's track record at North Carolina backs up his statement. In 2022, his first year as the starter, he led the Tar Heels to their first nine-win season since 2015. He followed it up with an 8-5 season in 2023.

Last year, Maye threw for 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions, following up a 2022 season that saw him throw for 4,321 yards, 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

At 6'4", Maye certainly has NFL size, but he is also quick for his large frame, picking up 449 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground last year. He also has ample arm strength and the ability to get passes off when the pocket collapses. The skills are there, and Maye seems to have the confidence needed to succeed at the next level.

Bleacher Report's Scouting Department considers him the No. 3 overall prospect and the top quarterback prospect in this year's draft class. In the scouting department's latest mock draft, Maye is projected to be the second player off the board, landing with the Washington Commanders at No. 2. USC's Caleb Williams is projected to go first overall to the Chicago Bears.
