Latest Match Card and Predictions

WrestleMania 40 Gets Stone Cold?

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin returned to the squared circle at WrestleMania 38, defeating Kevin Owens in the main event of Saturday's festivities before returning to drop Austin Theory, Mr. McMahon, and Pat McAfee with Stone Cold Stunners the following night.

Per Mike Johnson of PWInsiderElite.com (subscription required), WWE has contacted the Texas Rattlesnake about appearing in some form or fashion at this year's event (h/t Cageside Seats).

WWE has a history of producing legendary Superstars for the biggest show of the year, usually in a cameo of sorts. With Rhodes loading up rivals of The Bloodline, there is no greater rival of The Rock than Austin, against whom The Final Boss had three WrestleMania main events.

Austin defeated The Rock in 1999 and 2001, while The Great One finally overcame his foe in 2003.

While there is an argument to be made that Rhodes should take center stage by himself, having conquered The Bloodline, if there is a Superstar to share the ring with, it is arguably the biggest star in the history of WWE.

Is WWE Bringing Hulkamania to WrestleMania?

Johnson also reported that the company has contacted Hulk Hogan regarding appearances during WrestleMania weekend, but not necessarily the event itself (h/t Cageside Seats).

This year's show marks 40 years of WrestleMania and perhaps no Superstar was more important to the creation and success of the show early on than Hogan. He was the mainstream megastar who helped garner attention for the extravaganza on MTV, Saturday Night Live, and various talk shows.

He was the central figure in the booking of the show and the guy whose star helped sell it.

Inviting him to WrestleMania weekend, regardless of one's opinions of him, makes sense given Chief Content Officer Triple H's commitment to preserving the history of the company.

Whether he shows up as part of Saturday and Sunday's festivities remains to be seen, but his presence throughout the weekend is apropos.

Drew McIntyre Still Without A Contract

Drew McIntyre challenges Seth "Freakin" Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 but the ever-busy Johnson reported that The Scottish Warrior has yet to sign a new deal with WWE (h/t Cageside Seats).

This is despite a rapidly expiring contract.

Johnson added that focusing on his family will be a priority when it comes time to put pen to paper.

McIntyre has been one of the brightest spots on this road to WrestleMania, with his expert trolling garnering attention in arenas and across social media. He is a heel who has been right in all his claims. He believes himself to be justified is his insistence, has targeted everyone from Rollins to CM Punk, and is set up to go on a monster run as champion post-WrestleMania.

Including a heated rivalry with Punk.

Except none of that can happen if the company does not re-sign him to a new contract.

Heating a Superstar up to the extent that WWE has ahead of the biggest show of the year and not securing him to a new deal is risky business. The last thing the company wants is to watch him walk away and go perform elsewhere after building him back up as a main event entity.

There is likely a deal being worked out, and McIntyre will likely re-sign, but, interestingly, the company has not already gotten the contract signed ahead of the event.

At least to this point.
