Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.

Punk, McIntyre, Rollins Reportedly Improvised Some Parts of Raw Promo

As part of a stacked episode of Raw on Monday night, the trio of CM Punk, Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins got fans talking as much as anyone else on the show.

While the lasting memory coming out of Raw may be The Rock leaving Cody Rhodes a bloody mess in the parking lot, the promo segment involving Punk, McIntyre and Rollins won't be soon forgotten either.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), the talents involved were given a "general outline" for the segment, but they were also given some leeway and they made the decision to "just go for it and see what happens."

The promo started with Punk making his return to WWE programming amid rehabbing a torn triceps suffering during the men's Royal Rumble match in January.

Punk received a hero's welcome in his hometown of Chicago, but he was interrupted by McIntyre, who has essentially been the beneficiary of Punk's injury by stepping up to challenge Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.

After Punk and McIntyre took some verbal jabs at each other, Rollins showed up and got in on the action as well.

There were more funny and shock-inducing lines in the segment than any in recent memory, and it was clear that Punk, McIntyre and Rollins had the fans hanging on their every word.

The ultimate goal of the segment was to establish Punk's WrestleMania role given that he is not medically cleared to compete.

Since Punk has had issues with both Rollins and McIntyre and figures to engage in a rivalry with one or both of them once he returns, the decision was made for Punk to be on commentary for their world title match at WrestleMania.

McIntyre vs. Rollins was already among the most highly anticipated matches on the card, but with the unpredictability of Punk on commentary getting thrown into the mix, the match could have show-stealing potential.

Many Legends to Reportedly Be on Hand for WrestleMania 40

Involvement of legendary wrestlers has long been an important part of WrestleMania, and it seems that will once again be he case for the 40th edition of the Showcase of the Immortals.

According to PWInsider.com (h/t Carrier), WWE has invited several legendary Superstars to go to Philadelphia for the WrestleMania festivities.

Among them are Jerry "The King" Lawler, "Cowboy" Bob Orton, Alundra Blayze, Rikishi, Michelle McCool, Kane, JBL, Ron Simmons and Jimmy Hart.

While it is possible for any or all of them to appear on WrestleMania in some capacity, it could also be a case of WWE wanting them to be on hand to watch the show and possibly take part in some autograph signings.

They may not be the only legends in town for WrestleMania, as some of the biggest stars in WWE history are also rumored to be in the mix.

Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), WWE is looking to use "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, John Cena and The Undertaker in some capacity.

Meltzer noted that no creative is locked in for them unless it is being kept a secret, and that their WrestleMania involvement will likely hinge on their approval of what they are pitched.

During The Rock's beatdown of Rhodes at the end of Raw on Monday, a production truck could be seen in the background with Austin and Cena's faces on it.

That led some fans to theorize that it was an Easter egg and a sign of things to come at WrestleMania. WrestleVotes added fuel to the fire by noting that "everything is done on purpose" in WWE.

If Austin and Cena do get involved in the undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between Rhodes and Roman Reigns, it will make an already huge match even bigger and more memorable.

Holland's Retirement Promo on NXT Reportedly Part of a Storyline

Ridge Holland's promo on Tuesday night's episode of NXT in which he announced he is stepping away from in-ring competition was reportedly part of a storyline and not a legitimate retirement announcement.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Carrier), Holland has been "motivated" to be part of his current storyline and he is not actually leaving WWE or pro wrestling.

Holland returned to NXT a couple of months ago, and he claimed that he did so in order to find himself after being part of some unfortunate incidents on the main roster, including matches in which wrestlers got injured.

In his first major match in NXT after returning, Holland faced NXT champion Ilja Dragunov, and Dragunov had to be stretchered away.

The angle got fans talking, as they were initially unsure if Dragunov was really hurt or not, but it turned out that Dragunov was fine and the injury angle was part of Holland's character development.

Holland went on to feud with Gallus and he was attacked by Shawn Spears after Spears made his WWE return. Spears went on to beat Holland in a singles match on the March 12 episode of NXT.

It is unclear where Holland's storyline is going, but WWE is obviously trying to get him some sympathy and fan support along the way.

Fake retirements are nothing new in pro wrestling, and there is a history of them leading to some compelling storytelling, so this could be the start of something significant for Holland.
