We're in that odd stretch between the heart of NFL free agency and the wildness of draft month, which gives us a chance to reset and view each of the teams with a wider lens.
Where should they all go from here?
We have some advice, in small bites.
AFC East
Buffalo Bills: Be patient, because free agency is overrated and Tre'Davious White remains on the books until June 1.
Miami Dolphins: Get Tua Tagovailoa his bag now to reduce his $23.2 million 2024 salary-cap hit and rebound from a lot of bleeding in March.
New England Patriots: Trade down if you can, because the first round is a well-established crapshoot, and J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix are strong quarterback prospects.
New York Jets: Keep building the offense, because if this is going to succeed, it's going to be due to Aaron Rodgers working his magic.
AFC North
Baltimore Ravens: Find more support for your somewhat fragile MVP quarterback, because a lack of offensive-line continuity could be a real problem.
Cincinnati Bengals: There are plenty of other players with abilities in the same range of Tee Higgins, so don't view him as a make-or-break piece for 2024.
Cleveland Browns: Keep making it all about support for Deshaun Watson, because all of your eggs are already stuck in that basket.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Make it all about Russell Wilson versus Justin Fields, because there's a decent chance the winner delivers in a significant way and the storyline is just plain fun.
AFC South
Houston Texans: It's easy to get excited about C.J. Stroud's rookie year, but keep in mind that sophomore slumps are common and it's possible you played above your head in 2023.
Indianapolis Colts: You're right and everyone else is wrong: Free agency is immensely overrated.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Slow down on the overpriced contracts for so-so players, because Trevor Lawrence and Josh Allen will soon become very expensive.
Tennessee Titans: Be prepared to go full tank if those odd splashy moves for L'Jarius Sneed, Calvin Ridley, Lloyd Cushenberry, Chidobe Awuzie and Tony Pollard don't pay off.
AFC West
Denver Broncos: Don't be afraid to truly lose, because the potential long-term rewards may be worth the short-term pain.
Kansas City Chiefs: With some of that cash that just became available, go out and get Patrick Mahomes another veteran such as Tyler Boyd or Josh Reynolds.
Las Vegas Raiders: Work the draft board to land at least one of the top five quarterbacks, because so many of the other key pieces are in place.
Los Angeles Chargers: Give Jim Harbaugh and Co. a year, because they've inherited a team in a tough spot.
NFC East
Dallas Cowboys: When you have an accomplished veteran quarterback like Dak Prescott, the grass often isn't greener on the other side.
New York Giants: Daniel Jones is a sunk cost, but don't let that handcuff you further by ignoring a potential franchise quarterback in the draft.
Philadelphia Eagles: The pieces are there, but now you must focus on the team's mentality, focus and leadership.
Washington Commanders: Entertain offers for the No. 2 pick, because it's better to have more dice rolls in this crapshoot.
NFC North
Chicago Bears: Don't overthink this, because Caleb Williams could be special and you've got enough draft capital already.
Detroit Lions: Get a new Jared Goff deal done and use short-term savings to keep building while the window is open.
Green Bay Packers: Make Jordan Love prove it for one more full season.
Minnesota Vikings: Do not trade up for a primo quarterback, because that almost never works.
NFC South
Atlanta Falcons: Don't buy into your own hype, because doing so can be deadly.
Carolina Panthers: Make the draft all about supporting Bryce Young, because another bad season could be tough to overcome.
New Orleans Saints: Be prepared to throw in the towel and start the rebuild, because it has to happen eventually and this roster still isn't good enough.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: See the Saints, except with a little more rope because the roster is stronger and Baker Mayfield could be putting it all together.
NFC West
Arizona Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr.
Los Angeles Rams: Be prepared to adjust if it's revealed that last year was a dead-cat bounce.
San Francisco 49ers: Get ready to adjust if it turns out Brock Purdy peaked in 2023.
Seattle Seahawks: Don't be shy about moving up a few spots for a quarterback, but avoid selling the farm because it will likely backfire.
